Hiring a Litigation LAA – Family Law & Commercial Litigation
Our client is one of Vancouver’s premier boutique commercial law firms, with a strong reputation for serving many of the province’s industry leaders from their downtown Vancouver office. They are currently seeking a Litigation Legal Administrative Assistant to work alongside a Senior Paralegal, providing administrative support to a team of three lawyers — a senior partner and two associates — across family law and commercial litigation. This is a full-time permanent position offering varied, engaging work in a close-knit team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file court forms and pleadings; assemble application and petition records, hearing records, and binders for court appearances
- Schedule Applications, Chambers Hearings, Examinations for Discovery, Trials, Settlement Meetings, and Mediations, including coordinating with all counsel involved
- Maintain bring-forward systems for all court, litigation, and correspondence deadlines
- Draft and respond to correspondence; handle routine client calls
- Conduct searches through Court Services Online, BCOnline, and the Land Title Office
- Provide support during trials and lengthy chambers applications
- Open and close legal files; process incoming mail; handle photocopying, scanning, and physical and electronic filing
- Prepare accounts, track accounts receivable, and follow up on outstanding balances by correspondence and phone
- Prepare trust cheque requisitions, trust advice forms, expense forms, and other accounting documents
Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of BC court forms and litigation procedures; exposure to family law proceedings is an asset
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple active files
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word and Excel); experience with PC Law, NetDocs, and iPro Eclipse is an asset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently with sound judgment and initiative
- Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary range: $55,000 – $65,000 annually, commensurate with experience
